During its game against Wofford College to open the football season on Saturday, the university will celebrated 20 years in the stadium made possible through a lead gift from Dusty and Peggy Rhodes.

The longtime ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ leader and benefactor passed away Aug. 21.

The generous commitment brings fundraising for phase one of the project to more than $1.5 million as part of the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ LEADS Campaign. The renovations will transform ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s baseball facility and one of the university’s most successful athletics programs.

Since women's sports gained varsity recognition in 1971, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ has claimed more than 30 regular season or tournament championships, as well as earning 13 national postseason appearances.

Igaune, an assistant coach for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's track and field and cross country teams, will compete in the hammer throw at the Olympics in Tokyo.

All 17 ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Phoenix teams were represented on the honor roll, which includes student-athletes who achieved at least a 3.0 grade point average during the semester or a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

Kemei, Ahm Earn CAA Athlete of the Year awards, Elliston is Coach of the Year

The award recognizes one student-athlete in each of 19 CAA sports for representing the highest standards of teamwork, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship in athletic and academic achievements.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ will kick off the season on Sept. 4 at Wofford College.

The longtime friend and supporter of the university died June 7 after a long illness.
