Phoenix baseball team eliminated from NCAA regional

June 1, 2008

The no. 2 seed UNC Wilmington Seahawks posted 11 runs in the top of the ninth inning to down the no. 3 seed ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ Phoenix 15-11 on June 1. The loss ends ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ's competition in this year's NCAA post-season play.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ wins Southern Conference Baseball Tournament

The ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ Phoenix defeated the College of Charleston Cougars 17-8 on May 25 to claim the 2008 SoCon tournament title.  ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ improved to 43-16 and claims the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I baseball tournament.

The ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ Phoenix will enter the upcoming 2008 Southern Conference Baseball Championship as the number one seed after winning the regular season title outright with a 19-8 SoCon mark. The Phoenix finished one game ahead of College of Charleston (18-9) whose loss on the last day of the regular season gave ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ the title outright. It is the second SoCon title for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ in three seasons.

“Education Day” brings fifth-graders to campus for basketball victory

Hundreds of fifth-graders from a half dozen Alamance County schools took part in the 4th annual “Education Day with the Phoenix” this week, where they learned a little geography, math and fitness before watching the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ women’s basketball team top Presbyterian.

Football star elected to Walter Camp All-America Team

Sophomore wide receiver Terrell Hudgins became just the second ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ University football player – and first offensive Phoenix player – to ever be named to a Walter Camp Football Foundation All-America team when the 2007 squad was announced on Dec. 7, 2007.

Phoenix football team finishes season with #23 national ranking
