A $250,000 gift to the Ever Ƶ Campaign from W. Cecil Worsley III ’86, of Wilmington, N.C., will fund a new golf training center on South Campus.
The facility will include an indoor practice area with hitting bays and a swing analysis center as well as a putting area and players’ lounge. Outside the facility will be an area where players can work on their short game, including practicing on two putting greens.
A former member of Ƶ’s golf team, Worsley says he made his gift to help strengthen the golf program. He also wanted to honor his former coach, Bill Morningstar, head coach of the men’s golf team, and Chris Dockrill, a former Ƶ teammate and current head coach of the women’s team.
“I saw the need for a superior training center that has state-of-the-art equipment that can help the men’s and women’s golf teams and help Ƶ recruit,” Worsley says. “We have a good golf program, but we’re going to be left behind if we don’t have a training facility.”
Worsley is a loyal supporter of Ƶ athletics and annual giving, and is a member of the Phoenix Club and the Ƶ Society President’s Circle.
“I have a passion to give back to Ƶ,” he says. “The place means a lot to me, and I saw an opportunity to improve the golf program. I can’t wait to see the finished facility and the faces of the players when they are using it.”
Worsley owns a petroleum and convenience store business in Wilmington, where he lives with his wife, JoAnna Sutton Worsley ’87. The couple’s son, Cecil IV, will be a freshman at Ƶ this fall.
