A $250,000 gift to the Ever ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Campaign from W. Cecil Worsley III ’86, of Wilmington, N.C., will fund a new golf training center on South Campus.
The facility will include an indoor practice area with hitting bays and a swing analysis center as well as a putting area and players’ lounge. Outside the facility will be an area where players can work on their short game, including practicing on two putting greens.
A former member of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s golf team, Worsley says he made his gift to help strengthen the golf program. He also wanted to honor his former coach, Bill Morningstar, head coach of the men’s golf team, and Chris Dockrill, a former ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ teammate and current head coach of the women’s team.
“I saw the need for a superior training center that has state-of-the-art equipment that can help the men’s and women’s golf teams and help ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ recruit,” Worsley says. “We have a good golf program, but we’re going to be left behind if we don’t have a training facility.”
Worsley is a loyal supporter of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ athletics and annual giving, and is a member of the Phoenix Club and the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Society President’s Circle.
“I have a passion to give back to ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ,” he says. “The place means a lot to me, and I saw an opportunity to improve the golf program. I can’t wait to see the finished facility and the faces of the players when they are using it.”
Worsley owns a petroleum and convenience store business in Wilmington, where he lives with his wife, JoAnna Sutton Worsley ’87. The couple’s son, Cecil IV, will be a freshman at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ this fall.
