The Phoenix soccer team beat Furman Oct. 28 to complete a 7-0-0 perfect Southern Conference season. This is ������Ƶ's first regular season men's soccer title in the conference. ������Ƶ will enter the SoCon tournament Nov. 8 as the top seed, and will host the quarterfinal game on campus.

A spectacular touchdown catch by wide receiver Terrell Hudgins was featured as an ESPN "great grab" segment on the College Football Live program on Oct. 23.

Jerry Tolley, former head ������Ƶ football coach and a current member of the University Advancement staff, has been named a member of the 2008-09 Hall of Fame class of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The honor is the highest bestowed by the NAIA.

Six new members make up the 38th class of the ������Ƶ Sports Hall of Fame. The six inductees were recognized during a halftime ceremony of the Phoenix vs. Presbyterian College football game Sept. 13.

Two ������Ƶ football players, wide receiver Terrell Hudgins and quarterback Scott Riddle, were among 10 athletes nationwide named as "players to watch" in a USA Today article that previewed the upcoming season on Aug. 22.

������Ƶ alum Deborah Yow ’74, now serving as director of athletics at the University of Maryland, will be the first woman ever to head the Division 1A Athletic Directors’ Association when she takes office in September.

������Ƶ's men’s basketball, women's cross country, women's golf and volleyball teams are among NCAA Division I teams receiving public recognition awards for their latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. The public recognition awards, announced by the NCAA April 24, are part of the broad Division I academic reform effort.
