Chaplain’s Discretionary Fund

The Chaplain’s Discretionary Fund provides one-time emergency assistance to Ƶ faculty, staff, and students who have experienced an unforeseen financial crisis.

The Chaplain’s Discretionary Fund may be used to assist:

  • Currently employed faculty/staff of Ƶ
  • Currently enrolled students of Ƶ
  • Currently employed staff of Ƶ Dining

The Chaplain’s Discretionary Fund does not have an unlimited amount of funds. Contributions primarily from members of the Ƶ community support the fund. Each application for Chaplain’s Discretionary Fund assistance is reviewed, and the maximum amount of one-time assistance within a calendar year (January 1-December 31) approval is determined on a case-by-case basis.

Essential expenses that qualify as unforeseen financial crisis under the Chaplain’s Discretionary Fund include:

  • Clothing/Toiletries
  • Groceries
  • Utilities
  • Uninsured Medical

Other emergency situations will be considered on a case-by-case basis, at the discretion of the Chaplain’s Discretionary Fund Committee. The Chaplain’s Discretionary Fund excludes expenses related to cable service, mobile telephone service, tuition and university housing, domestic and study abroad, Greek life, and other optional services or university-billed expenses.

Verification of eligibility and application review may take up to three business days. Please note, applications are not reviewed or processed after-hours, on weekends, or when the University is otherwise closed, such as during Winter Break.

Student Food Insecurity

A service provided to students through the Chaplain’s Discretionary Fund is the distribution of meal vouchers (provided by Ƶ Dining) that may be used at Ƶ Dining Halls. These meal vouchers, which can by obtained through Ƶ Dining, are given to students who identify themselves as food insecure and are distributed at the discretion of the University Chaplain and their Administrative Assistant.

Donate to the Chaplain’s Fund

The Chaplain’s Fund is supported by contributions from members of the Ƶ community. Use the button below to make a tax-deductible contribution to the Chaplain’s Discretionary Fund. Select Religious Life as the Fund Group and Chaplain’s Fund as the Designation. Donors may contribute “in honor” or “in memory” of an individual but may not designate funds to assist a specific individual.
