ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ leaders will dedicate Martha S. and Carl H. Lindner III Hall on Friday in an afternoon ceremony that welcomes back to campus the donors whose gift helped make the building possible. Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend the 4 p.m. dedication on the north patio facing the Academic Village.

“Diversity” has become a buzzword on college campuses that misses a larger point, said activist and BET personality Jeff Johnson, who visited campus Saturday for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s inaugural Diversity Leadership Conference. More should be done to foster greater community, he said, and responsibility for that rests with student leaders.

The nation’s oldest and most prestigious academic honor society installed its newest chapter Tuesday during ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s Convocation for Honors, where faculty and staff members of Phi Beta Kappa were charged with upholding the society’s values by committing themselves to intellectual freedom, the pursuit of knowledge and the ideal of excellence in scholarship in the liberal arts and sciences.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ junior Molly Schriber has been named a recipient of a 2010 Udall Scholarship, an award dedicated in part for students pursuing careers related to the environment. It is the second time since 2008 that an ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ student has received the prestigious national award.
Catherine McNeela named William S. Long Professor

Catherine McNeela, professor of performing arts and coordinator of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ's music theatre program, has been named the university's William S. Long Professor, an honor named for the institution's first president. McNeela's appointment was made by President Leo M. Lambert in recognition of her 20 years of outstanding teaching, scholarship and leadership in developing ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s nationally recognized Music Theatre program.

A 2009 ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ alumna will have a documentary she produced as a student broadcast this month on One Africa TV. Erin Barnett's film, "My Name is Anita," introduces viewers to Anita Isaacs, a former Periclean-in-Residence at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ and an HIV/AIDS activist in Namibia.
