John G. Currin Jr., president and chief executive officer of Alamance Regional Medical Center and ARMC Healthcare since 2005, was honored at a June 22 campus luncheon with the Frank S. Holt, Jr. Business Leadership Award, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s highest honor for business leadership.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's new master of science program in physician assistant (PA) studies will be located on the university's main campus. ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's board of trustees made the decision in a special vote on Jan. 5, following more than two months of study and fundraising efforts.

The ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Board of Trustees has approved the establishment of a master of science program in physician assistant studies. The board's vote at its Oct. 22-23 fall meeting will launch ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s sixth graduate program.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's board of trustees voted April 15 to establish a new School of Health Sciences, serving graduate students in the existing doctor of physical therapy (DPT) program along with students in the new physician assistant (PA) studies master's program, which will enroll its first class in January 2013.

"Valued Voices," a play written by Jean Rattigan-Rohr, associate professor in ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's School of Education, will be featured in The Reader’s Theatre of New Works section of the 2011 National Black Theater Festival. The performance will be at 10 a.m., Aug. 2nd, in the Gaines Ballroom I – Embassy Suites Hotel, Winston Salem, N.C.

A new undergraduate exchange program created this month between ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ and Koç University in Istanbul, Turkey, will allow students to study abroad in a part of the world steeped with culture, history and art at a time when academic interest in the Middle East is blossoming.

The 2012 edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges names ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ one of the nation's top 25 "Best Buy" private universities. The best buy schools are recognized for the quality of their academic offerings in relation to the cost of attendance.

A new ferryboat affiliated with ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ sets sail on the coastal North Carolina waters this summer. All of North Carolina’s ferryboats are affiliated with colleges or universities in North Carolina and display the school colors and logos.

Twenty-six students, faculty, staff and alumni representing ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s Imagining the Internet Center participated in and provided official documentation of the Internet Governance Forum-USA 2011 at Georgetown University Law Center on July 18.

This September, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ will begin a new lifelong education program designed for people aged 50 and older. The learning institute, called LIFE@ELON, will feature weekly presentations conducted in interactive format. The learning community will be led by current and retired ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ faculty and staff members and other area educators.
