Tony Weaver, assistant professor of leisure and sport management, has been appointed to the Alamance County Tourism Development Authority.

The Statesville (N.C.) Record & Landmark on April 25 profiled Carson Foushee '07, a leisure and sport management graduate, and his efforts to raise money for the purchase of netting that can help slow the spread of malaria in Africa.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ seniors Jenna Raffio (psychology) and Ryan Pauley (leisure and sport management), along with faculty members Chris Leupold and Tony Weaver, presented a poster titled, “Creation of a Strategic Performance Model for Division I Athletic Directors: Phase I” at the Scholarly Conference on College Sport in Chapel Hill, N.C., held from April 15-19.

The Leisure and Sport Management 227 event planning class held two events this semester, raising $1,850 for Loaves & Fishes Christian Food Ministry.

The Department of Leisure and Sport Management welcomed home one of its own Friday as faculty, students and guests gathered in Holland House for Johnathan Harvey ’09, who returned to North Carolina last month from a four-month deployment to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The LSM Society raised $10,000 this fall by managing concessions for a PGA event in Cary, N.C., and by hosting a wheelchair basketball tournament.

Hal Walker, an associate professor of leisure and sport management, presented research in October at the International Academy of Business and Economics (IABE) conference in Las Vegas. The title of his presentation: “The Relationship between Psychological Commitment, Participation Frequency and Purchase Intention in Recreational Golfers.”
