The Sierra Club named ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ one of the nation’s top “Coolest Schools” in the environmental group’s fourth annual rankings of America’s greenest campuses. It is the second consecutive year that ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ made the list, which rates schools in categories that include academics, waste management and energy efficiency.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ professors, administrators and alumni made regional and national news in recent weeks through their research and activities, both on and off campus. Notable this August was ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's continued praise in the annual U.S.News & World Report rankings. The following list should not be considered exhaustive and does not include all athletics news.

EdTech, a magazine focused on technology applications in education, features ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ in its September/October edition. The article, titled "Building the Smarter Classroom," says that ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ is "taking instructional technology to the next level," with "pioneering collaborative classrooms and teaching students real-world skills."

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ faculty and academic programs earned numerous top national honors in the 2011 “America’s Best Colleges” rankings released Aug. 17 by US News & World Report. In the magazine's "Focused on Their Undergrads" ranking, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ is named the #1 Southern University and among the top 86 colleges and universities in the nation "where the faculty has an unusual commitment to undergraduate teaching," as measured in a survey of college presidents, provosts and admissions deans.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ has been named one of the nation's top universities in a PARADE magazine survey of high school guidance counselors across the country.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's project to use geothermal technology to heat and cool the new Colonnades residence halls was featured in reports on News 14 Carolina, Time-Warner Cable's statewide news network, and the Triad's Fox 8 news.

Michael Frontani, an associate professor in the School of Communications, was a guest July 28, 2010, on North Carolina Public Radio's "The State of Things," where he discussed with host Frank Stasio the continuing popularity of Paul McCartney.

The Chronicle of Higher Education has recognized ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ in its 2010 “Great Colleges to Work For” program, which honors institutions for best practices and policies, such as teaching environment, respect and appreciation, and confidence in senior leadership.
