ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ College, the College of Arts and Sciences, recognized distinguished student and faculty achievement over the past year in a May 6 ceremony.

Job search expert and author Orville Pierson will talk about the best ways to network and search jobs during a presentation on Thursday, April 22, at 4:30 pm in LaRose Digital Theatre.

Pamela M. Kiser, Watts-Thompson Professor in the Department of Human Service Studies and interim dean of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ College, the College of Arts and Sciences, has been named ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s fourth Distinguished University Professor.

Alison Morrison-Shetlar, vice provost and dean of undergraduate studies at the University of Central Florida, Orlando, Fla., has been named dean of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ College, the College of Arts and Sciences, and professor of biology at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ. Her appointment by Provost Steven House comes after a national search.

Marilyn Cochran-Smith, a national expert on teacher education research, comes to ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ on March 10 for an evening lecture that explores a current school focus on testing, and how educators can use their teaching in the service of social justice.

The Phi Beta Kappa Society, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious academic society, has voted to establish a new chapter at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ. The decision was made Oct. 2 at the Society’s 42nd Triennial Council in Austin, Texas. The 57 ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ faculty and staff who are Phi Beta Kappa members will receive a charter, and the chapter will be officially established in spring 2010. ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s formal application for the chapter was submitted in November 2006 by Russell Gill, Maude Sharpe Powell Professor of English and chair of the faculty’s Phi Beta Kappa Committee.
