ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ takes the spotlight in New York City

Nearly 700 alumni, parents and friends celebrated ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ at The Plaza in Manhattan on Sept. 12.

For the fourth consecutive year, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ trustee Ed Doherty and his wife Joan hosted an Evening for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ event in New York City. This year’s event at The Plaza Hotel drew a record crowd for the premiere of the new ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ alumni video produced by Tim Johnson ’09 and Max Cantor ’10. Both were on hand to share their production with nearly 700 people who gathered in The Plaza’s Grand Ballroom. The video earned a standing ovation from the crowd.

The reception began with an a cappella vocal performance of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s Alma Mater by performing arts alumni Ian Frazier ’06, Clark Kinkade ’12, Jared Loftin ’11, Corey Loftus ’07, Vinnie Meduri ’11, Cary Mitchell ’07 and Jeff Ostermueller ’09.

President Leo M. Lambert provided an update on the start of the academic year on campus and the progress on the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Commitment, the university’s strategic plan.

Closing remarks were made by Michael Rodgers ’97, followed by a performance of the Broadway musical tune “For Good” from the production of Wicked. The vocalists were performing arts alumnae Carly (Caroline) Casey ’09 and Kennedy (Britney) Caughell ’12, accompanied on piano by Dan Gibson ’09.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s New York Alumni Chapter hosted a young alumni after-party at the Ava Lounge penthouse of the Dream Hotel.

The Evening for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ at The Plaza in Manhattan was held on Sept. 12.
The Dohertys are parents of alumna Kerry Doherty ’07, and have been generous supporters of the university. They served as ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Parents Council members before Ed joined the Board of Trustees in 2006. In 2007 the Dohertys made a $1 million gift to endow The Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership in ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. The Doherty Center supports scholarships for students, an endowed professorship for entrepreneurial leadership, an annual endowed Entrepreneur-of-the-Year lecture, and programming.

Evenings for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ are held to build strong connections between the university and alumni, parents and friends in cities around the country.
