At College Coffee on March 9, Executive Vice President Gerry Francis offered comments about Danieley’s storied ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ career before leading a tree-planting ceremony in Founders Grove in the Academic Village.
“He’s a presence on campus in the in the chemistry classroom, he’s carried the university mace at special events, he’s given the graduation address, and, for those of you who attend basketball games, you’ll see him standing up waving a victory towel,” Francis said.
On March 11 at College Chapel, Life Trustee James B. Powell shared entertaining and illuminating stories about Danieley’s life and ancestral ties to ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ. He also reviewed the many advances ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ made during the Danieley presidency and highlighted Danieley’s strong, calm leadership during the political turmoil of the Vietnam War years.
“Earl certainly didn’t experience peace and quiet around the campus,” Powell said. “But ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ had the perfect man – they had found a brilliant man with country-boy, walkaround sense.”
