Alumni Affinity Networks

Led by alumni and supported by the Office of Alumni Engagement, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s affinity networks unite and represent the interests of alumni who share common identities and connections, promote an inclusive environment and help raise financial resources for the university’s efforts. Networks are created as other affinity groups organize. Current affinity networks include:

Black Life Advisory Council

Established in 2017, the Black Life Advisory Council is a group of university parents dedicated to advancing ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s commitment to inclusive excellence. The Council supports initiatives that enhance the overall ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ experience, particularly promoting access, equity, and belonging for Black students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Through leadership in philanthropy, strategic advising, and engagement with institutional priorities, the Council contributes to recruitment, retention, and campus climate efforts that benefit the broader university community.

Committee on ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ History and Memory

Founded in 2018, the Committee on ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ History and Memory was charged with examining the university’s institutional history in a transparent, participatory and intellectually rigorous manner, and guaranteeing that we tell ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s story in a manner consistent with ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s values. After two years of work, the committee released a detailed report that focuses on the experiences of Black members of the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ community throughout its history and explores ways to improve policies and procedures regarding ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s commemorative practices going forward.

Council on Civic Engagement

The Council on Civic Engagement is the central group responsible for promoting civic engagement activities across campus. ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ serves as one of the model campuses for the Carnegie Classification on Civic Engagement and is recognized as one of the nation’s top universities for community service.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Community Accessibility Network

In Spring 2020, President Book approved the creation of the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Community Accessibility Network (ECAN), establishing a strategic partnership between ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ and the Town of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ in their endeavor to advance policies and practices that lead to greater access, equity and treatment for a truer shared community. Building on the work of the university’s Office of Disabilities Resources and Advocates for the Differently-Abled Employee Resource Group, ECAN’s work spans three areas: education and training, compliance and advocacy.

Jewish Life Advisory Council

In 2011, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ President Emeritus Leo Lambert created the Jewish Life Advisory Council (JLAC). At the time, there were only 300 Jewish students on campus and Jewish Life was just starting to grow into the engaging and supportive community it’s come to be. JLAC members are ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ parents, alumni and grandparents who shape the vision, provide thoughtful guidance and help steer the course of Jewish life at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ. JLAC members are our Ambassadors, Backers, and Champions (the JLAC ABC’s), and their support is vital to ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s Jewish community.

JLAC members meet four times per year as a full group (our Spring meeting is in person) and are invited to take part in one or more JLAC committees: Outreach, Social Media, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Alumni and Financial Advisory.

President’s Advisory Council on Inclusive Excellence

Founded in February 2020, the President’s Advisory Council on Inclusive Excellence serves as an on-campus advisory body for the president and is comprised of action-oriented subcommittees of faculty and staff, who serve as institutional champions for inclusive excellence. The council meets regularly to align strategic initiatives and emerging topics with a culture of inclusive excellence. The subcommittees include:

  • Campus climate and assessment, which focuses on collecting, analyzing, interpreting and reporting data, as well as communicating campus climate information to members of the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ community.
  • Education and development, which focuses on supporting intercultural learning opportunities for students, as well as professional development for colleagues.
