Honors Requirements

Honors Fellows are expected to

  • Abide by ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s Honor Code
  • Be enrolled as full-time students all for four years
  • Complete an undergraduate degree (students cannot pursue a dual-degree program where they receive degrees from two universities or accelerated programs where they receive an undergraduate and a masters degree in four years)
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA in Honors Courses and a 3.3 GPA overall while taking a challenging course load
    • If a student’s GPA falls below the required level during the first year they will put on probation
    • If the GPA requirement is not satisfied at the end of sophomore year then the student will be suspended from the program
  • Complete the Honors curriculum, including
    • Honors ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ 1010 (fall of first year)
    • Honors COR 1100: The Global Experience (fall of first year)
    • A first-year disciplinary seminar (spring of first year)
    • Two interdisciplinary sophomore seminars (usually taken fall and spring of the second year)
    • Annual reflection reports during the first two years
  • Propose and complete a high-quality mentored research project, the Honors Thesis, within their major
    • Thesis research includes eight hours of academic credit (HNR 4998), at least four of which must be taken during the senior year
    • Thesis progress reports are written each semester that HNR 4998 credits are taken
    • Participate in the Presentation of Progress held in the fall of senior year
    • Defend the thesis in front of the thesis committee in spring of senior year
  • Participate in required Honors Workshops
  • Attend colloquial and cultural events outside the classroom and write a reflection about one event each time a written report is submitted
  • Contribute time, at least twice, to the Honors Program
