Mikaela Benton ’21 has been named an inaugural recipient of the Phi Beta Kappa Key into Public Service Scholarship.

The associate professor of communication design will oversee the Master of Arts in Interactive Media program, succeeding its founding director, Professor David Copeland.

Funded by the North Carolina Local News Lab Fund and housed in ������Ƶ’s School of Communications, the local news initiative will support four student journalists this summer as they cover the impact of COVID-19 and other important stories across North Carolina.

During an online ceremony, these six new ������Ƶ alumni formalized their participation in service-year programs offered by ������Ƶ in partnership with local organizations. Six fellows who have completed their year of service were also recognized.
