Wellness@乱伦视频 | Today at 乱伦视频 | 乱伦视频 /u/news Mon, 20 Apr 2026 19:47:18 -0400 en-US hourly 1 乱伦视频 continuing focus on Act-Belong-Commit framework and mental wellness /u/news/2020/04/24/elon-continuing-focus-on-act-belong-commit-framework-and-mental-wellness/ Fri, 24 Apr 2020 14:14:48 +0000 /u/news/?p=796919 Not everything has been put on hold during this period of social distancing. 乱伦视频鈥檚 Council on Wellness and Well-Being has continued its commitment to promoting the Act-Belong-Commit Framework throughout the campus community.

The ABC Framework encourages community members to keep active 鈥 physically socially, mentally, culturally and spiritually (Act); stay connected to friends and family or get involved in groups and local community activities (Belong); and commit to a cause by volunteering, learning new skills or taking on new challenges (Commit). The framework has already taken many virtual forms as students, faculty and staff continue the semester away from campus.

鈥淚 think it鈥檚 such a dynamic framework that it鈥檚 going to constantly change how we engage and interact with the 乱伦视频 community 鈥 that is an advantage,鈥 said Caroline Ketcham, professor of exercise science and chair of the Department of Exercise Science.

The ABC Framework aims to build and inspire a culture of positive mental health and holistic well-being. The pillars are more important now than ever while the 乱伦视频 community is physically away from campus.

鈥淲e had such an abrupt halt to everything as we were moving into one of the busiest months on the calendar,鈥 said Director of Campus Recreation and Wellness Larry Mellinger. 鈥淔olks moved from having so many different things to do every day to completely changing how we live, learn, socialize and prioritize.”

Mellinger says a way for individuals to continue practicing Act-Belong-Commit is to find ways to create routines at home while navigating the online learning model and its many systems.

To help the community establish routines at home, the university has developed a number of resources to help students, faculty and staff continue to practice positive habits that promote mental wellness. 乱伦视频鈥檚 Community Building team has introduced the 乱伦视频 Staying Connected initiative, transforming several campus traditions and events into virtual experiences to keep the campus community engaged. 乱伦视频 Counseling Services also offered a variety of resources to help students near and far from campus during this period of online learning. Campus Recreation and Wellness is also offering ways to stay physically active while at home.

This time away from campus can also be an opportunity to reevaluate all the things you have on your plate, Ketcham says.

鈥淩ight now, for many, there is more time, but there are several of us who find less time because of the overlap of all of our responsibilities,鈥 said Ketcham. 鈥淚t鈥檚 really about refocusing on 鈥榳hat are you committed to, what matters most, and how do you fit it all in?鈥欌

Ketcham and Mellinger recommend considering your responsibilities and routines and determining which ones positively affect your mental wellness. And in your free time, try new skills or pick up old hobbies that bring you joy. Then, find ways to incorporate those positive actions into your daily life once schedules return to normal.

鈥淚 think when we return this fall, we should consider how we might come back to campus and not immediately over-commit ourselves,鈥 Mellinger said. 鈥淲e can leverage this opportunity to stop and pause, so that when life accelerates again we find a way to do the things that we need to do, while continuing to prioritize activities we enjoy and that make us physically and mentally healthy.”

Health & wellness center expands to South Campus /u/news/2013/06/25/health-wellness-center-expands-to-south-campus/ Tue, 25 Jun 2013 13:50:00 +0000 /u/news/2013/06/25/health-wellness-center-expands-to-south-campus/ Students and university employees seeking medical help this fall will find expanded space and professional staff from Alamance Regional Medical Center available to assist them in a new South Campus health facility.

The R.N. Ellington Center for Health and Wellness located at 301 S. O’Kelly Avenue is the university’s new home for Student Health Services, Counseling Services, Faculty/Staff Wellness and the Office of Student Health and Wellness.  At 14,000 square feet, it is more than twice the size of the previous health center and faculty/staff wellness centers.

The new student health facility building features nine medical exam rooms, a procedure room for treatments like sutures or IV fluid injections, separate blood-drawing and allergy labs, a larger waiting area for students, a pharmacy and a separate office suite for Counseling Services.

A full-time physician joins Student Health Services this fall, in addition to three advanced care clinicians. Medical staff with Student Health Services is employed by Alamance Regional Medical Center, a part of Cone Health, one of the region’s largest networks of health care providers.

“Health care is changing so much, even at the local level,” said Jana Lynn Patterson, associate vice president for Student Life and dean of Student Health and Wellness. “By partnering with the Alamance Regional and Cone Health, we feel we’ll be able to provide better stability in staffing and expanded medical resources for our students.”

Alamance Regional Chief Executive Officer John Currin said the hospital has had long partnerships with 乱伦视频, from wellness programming for faculty and staff to serving as the official primary care provider for 乱伦视频 Athletics.

“We are delighted to expand our services further in order to bring the high level of quality care that Alamance Regional is known for to the Student Health Services,” Currin said. “With Alamance Regional operating the health center, students will benefit from seamless and coordinated care within the local medical community, whether there is a need for referral to a medical specialist, radiology services, rehabilitation or even hospitalization.”

Other features available for students include:

– Expanded weekend hours to include Sunday afternoons.

– A full-time athletic trainer dedicated to Club Sports, the Department of Performing Arts and the student body in general.

– Expanded space for fee-for-service providers, including a psychiatrist and a psychologist. The university plans to offer a fee-for-service nutritionist within the next academic year. “It allows students who need a level of service beyond what we provide on a day-to-day basis to have quick access to that service,” Patterson said.

– Transportation via an electric cart to the Ellington Center will be available from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, to transport to the students on campus who may be too sick to travel on their own.

– Health Services will transition to electronic medical records this fall and students will also be able to access information through a new portal being made available to all patients at the facility.

In addition to health and counseling services, the Office of Student Health and Wellness – formerly the Office of Student Development – has relocated to the R.N. Ellington Center for Health and Wellness. The office includes university staff members dedicated to health promotion, violence prevention, substance education, student concerns outreach and inclusive community well-being.

The student-led SPARKS (Students Promoting Awareness, Responsibility, Knowledge, and Success) peer education program relocated to the Ellington Center  from its old location in the Koury Athletic Center.

Additional information will be posted on the Student Health Services and Counseling Services websites in the coming weeks. A building dedication is being planned for late summer or early fall.

The Office of Student Health and Wellness can be reached at (336) 278-7200. Health Services is closed for the summer and reopens in August.

A lunch featuring salad and a potato bar was provided to everyone who attended the Healthy Outcomes presentation.

The faculty and staff who participate in 乱伦视频’s group health insurance plan have a chance to win prizes for getting healthy.

The Wellness Center staff kicked off its latest initiative, Healthy Outcomes, at a lunchtime presentation in Moseley Center Wednesday. The program, which is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, will take place through Sept. 30 and encourages participates to take charge of their health.

“What we want everybody to do is take just the right steps you need to do to become healthier,” said Terese Honeycutt, the Blue Cross Blue Shield representative that explained the program.

Everyone who attended received two free movie tickets, and three people won $100 gift cards.

Participants earn wellness credits for every step they take in the program, whether it’s by doing a health assessment, listening to a monthly webinar or adhering to preventative care guidelines.

The online health assessment captures detailed information, such as height, weight, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, as well as data such as seatbelt use and driving speeds. The information is confidential and won’t be shared with 乱伦视频.

“Once you have completed the health assessment, you will get a score,” Honeycutt said. “Then we will let you know whether our tools can help you improve your health.”

Everyone who completes the health assessment will earn 40 wellness credits and if it’s done by March 31, participants will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card to Walmart. The people who earn 90 credits by June have a chance at a $100 gift card, and everyone with 90 credits by the end of the program in September will be entered to win an iPad. Multiple prizes will be given out at each drawing.

The event started with a cheer.

There are several ways to earn credits. The healthy living programs that cover topics such as smoking cessation, stress relief, nutrition, fitness, diabetes and heart disease provide weekly to-do lists, email reminders and other resources. Those programs earn participants 20 credits per activity.

Healthy living conversations are quick and interactive sessions about topics, such as stress, back pain or getting active, and only take about 10 minutes to complete but allow participants to earn 10 credits. Online monthly seminars focus on similar topics and are worth five credits each.

People who have regular preventative care, such as breast, cervical or colorectal cancer screenings or physical exams can earn as much as 50 wellness credits.

“The healthier you are and the healthier habits you have, the more chances you have to win the prizes that are available,” Honeycutt said.

Anyone interested in participating in Healthy Outcomes can go to and click on the “Wellness” tab. For more information contact the Wellness Center at Ext. 5569.
