From flexible furniture for kids who fidget to desks with writable surfaces to walls to be filled with student projects, writing and artwork, renovations are stirring the imaginations of those designing a temporary location for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s new private elementary school for children with dyslexia.

Recently retired from Guilford County Schools in North Carolina, Tracy Roof will help develop systems and policies for a full-day, private transitional school set to open on campus in August for children with dyslexia.

An in-depth report by one of North Carolina's leading news stations detailed the Orton-Gillingham multisensory approach to reading instruction to be used starting this fall when ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ opens a private school for children with dyslexia.

More than a dozen parents and educators attended a program to learn about the Orton-Gillingham multisensory approach that will help children with dyslexia learn to read at a new private elementary school opening this August on campus.

The first Discovering Dyslexia session on Wednesday, Dec. 10 offered an opportunity for community members to learn more about the learning disability and the new Roberts Academy at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ, a new transitional school that will be the state's only university-based private school for children with dyslexia.

Staff involved with the upcoming launch of a Roberts Academy at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ traveled to Georgia in December to learn from teachers and program directors about their own experience in a school established for children with dyslexia.

In an interview with the Triad Business Journal's NC Business Minds podcast, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ President Connie Ledoux Book discussed the new Roberts Academy at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ, the university's proposed merger with Queens University and what, she says, may lead to the closure of other universities in the future.

Through a once-in-a-generation investment in North Carolina education by Marjorie and Hal Roberts, the new academy - set to open in Fall 2026 - will be the state's only university-based private school for children with dyslexia.
