Spacious plaza taking shape at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s Academic Village

Construction workers were smoothing cement July 15 as they work to complete the new plaza that will grace the entrance to ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ's Academic Village. The plaza is scheduled for completion Aug. 10, and will be the new home for the university's weekly College Coffee gatherings.

Students take part in inaugural “ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ in New York” program

Twenty ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ students are living and working in the Big Apple this month as part of the inaugural Summer in the City: ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ in New York program sponsored by the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. Students are interning at major firms and nonprofits in the fields of finance, marketing, communications and entrepreneurship while residing in the Upper East Side of Manhattan and completing a professional development course.

A new program to help ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ students make smart job search decisions based on geographical preference, all while connecting them with alumni and other professionals, was recently cited as a best practices model at the National Association of Colleges and Employers annual conference in Las Vegas.

When Robert Hoppey '09 saw a tough job market in the year leading up to his graduation, he built a "souped-up multimedia resume" that included a video spoof of "The Office" television program to show potential employers his creative side. CBS Evening News took note, too, and Hoppey was featured in a June 8 nationwide segment on the ways college graduates are marketing themselves in an economic recession.
