The "It Takes a Village" Project's fall semester concluded with a food-themed lesson hosted by ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Dining and Harvest Table Culinary Group.

The project will conclude for the year with a hands-on learning event held in partnership with Harvest Table Culinary Group on Dec. 4 in Alumni Gym.

A partnership between ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s It Takes a Village Project and the Harvest Table Culinary Group has included an innovative approach that incorporates cooking into helping students understand mathematical concepts.

Cindy Fair, Tony Crider, Haya Ajjan and Jean Rattigan-Rohr shared their innovative scholarship, insights into teaching and approaches to community engagement at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Talks: Faculty Voices.

From July 9-20, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ is hosting 176 Alamance-Burlington School System students at Summer in the Village, a summer academic preparedness and enrichment program of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's It Takes a Village Project. 

Among those volunteering with the Village project this semester — members of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's men's and women's basketball teams. 

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's "It Takes a Village" Project began in 2008 with ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ education students providing after-school reading assistance to 16 third-graders. 

What began as a personal bookmobile project is now receiving rave reviews for its impact on the education of young readers during summer vacation.

The initiative is part of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's Center for Access and Success and pairs tutors with students in all levels of elementary and secondary school to help them succeed in school. 

On Sunday, March 5, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ hosted students, faculty and staff from ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ and the community for the closing of the Tournées French Film Festival: Join the Résistance!
