ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's men’s basketball, women's cross country, women's golf and volleyball teams are among NCAA Division I teams receiving public recognition awards for their latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. The public recognition awards, announced by the NCAA April 24, are part of the broad Division I academic reform effort.

The no. 2 seed UNC Wilmington Seahawks posted 11 runs in the top of the ninth inning to down the no. 3 seed ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Phoenix 15-11 on June 1. The loss ends ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's competition in this year's NCAA post-season play.

Ken Ferrer allowed just three runs over a career-best 7.2 innings pitched and Mike Melillo hit a two-run home run to lead the 29th-ranked and third-seeded ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Phoenix to a 6-3 victory over the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers in an elimination game of the Cary Regional of the 2008 NCAA Baseball Tournament.

The ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Phoenix defeated the College of Charleston Cougars 17-8 on May 25 to claim the 2008 SoCon tournament title.  ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ improved to 43-16 and claims the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I baseball tournament. 

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ University Athletics today announced that it will hold a viewing party of the 2008 NCAA Baseball Selection Show at The Cutting Board located at 2699 Ramada Road in Burlington on Monday, May 26.

The ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Phoenix will enter the upcoming 2008 Southern Conference Baseball Championship as the number one seed after winning the regular season title outright with a 19-8 SoCon mark. The Phoenix finished one game ahead of College of Charleston (18-9) whose loss on the last day of the regular season gave ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ the title outright. It is the second SoCon title for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ in three seasons.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's Faculty Athletics Representative Vicki Hightower has been honored by the Southern Conference as one of 11 recipients of the league's 2008 Distinguished Service Award.
