Alumni, faculty and students will gather in Los Angeles June 5 to kick off the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ in L.A. internship and study program. The new program offers students an inside view of the entertainment industry and opportunities to network with alumni. Alumni also will gather June 3 to launch an L.A. alumni chapter.

Thirty students from an elementary school in Washington, D.C., spent two days on campus this month as part of a joint program between the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Academy and a nonprofit group dedicated to helping under-served youth prepare for and succeed in college.

The School of Communications will be holding Digital Media and Flash workshops from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Aug. 18-20.

Senior Brian Fink was given a national Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists May 19.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ parents Howard C. and Judy Pickett of Cary, N.C., have made a $110,000 endowment gift to enhance the university’s Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellows program. The couple made the gift because of the transformative experience that their daughter, Hilaire, a senior, has had as a Leadership Fellow at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ.

A leisure and sport management class raised $1,050 for the United Way of Alamance County by hosting two events in recent weeks.

The 2008 Faculty Assisting New Students (F.A.N.S.) have been announced: Earl Danieley, Janna Anderson, Andi Metts, Chris Leupold, Paula Patch, Glenn Scott and Amanda Tapler.

A River's Reach, a new film involving students and staff from the School of Communications and Project Pericles, debuts next week at the Paramount Theater in downtown Burlington.
