ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Commmunications students Shea Northcut and Laura Beth Ward were awarded a Harold Fellows Scholarship from the Broadcast Education Association this week.

The dean and two faculty members in the School of Communications have authored a chapter that appears in the 2009 edition of the book "Global Journalism: Topical Issues and Media Systems."

The work of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ student Mitch Pittman is included in a student-only media Web site operated by Fox News called Palestra.net.

A representative from the Sunshine Center at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ will present at the Future of News Seminar Nov. 19 in Chapel Hill.

A four-member faculty of academics and attorneys will conduct a seminar titled "What You Need to Know About Public Records and Open Meetings in North Carolina" Nov. 20 in Raleigh. Lorman Education Services is offering the daylong seminar for continuing education credit. Sunshine Center Assistant Director Dale Harrison will serve on the faculty, conducting a session titled “Sunshine Legislation in North Carolina: Current Conditions and a Forecast for the Future.”

The Bars & Tone Experiment, five short films by Nicole Triche, an instructor in the School of Communications, will be screened Nov. 12 at the 14th Annual Cucalorus Film Festival in Wilmington, N.C.
