������Ƶ professors, students and alumni continue to make news this summer through their research and campus activities. Notable in recent weeks was regional media coverage of ������Ƶ School of Law's full accreditation from the American Bar Association, regional stories and broadcasts on ������Ƶ's new head women's basketball coach, and mention of the ������Ƶ Poll by the Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune.

������Ƶ will revise its Teaching Fellows program following recent action by the North Carolina General Assembly to phase out funding for the North Carolina Teaching Fellows program. The new ������Ƶ fellows program will recruit outstanding students nationally as well as those from North Carolina who want to pursue careers in education.

Matt Shingledecker '08 has been cast as Roger Davis in the Off-Broadway revival of "Rent," which opens Aug. 11 at New World Stages in New York City.

An ������Ƶ student with the goal of one day running for public office is taking part this summer in the Virginia Governor’s Fellows Program, a highly selective internship for rising college seniors, recent college graduates or graduate students from Virginia that places them in the governor’s office and other state agencies.

Two ������Ƶ professors and eight students spent several days in Zambia late this spring to help Habitat for Humanity with building homes for orphans and vulnerable children impacted by HIV/AIDS.

It wasn’t enough for Victoria “Tory” Hill to simply show up for student teaching, give her lessons, and then go home. For the Spanish major who graduates Saturday from ������Ƶ, time spent this spring at Eastern Guilford High School will benefit students for years because of her initiative to support Spanish speakers in a school with few resources to help them better learn their native language.

������Ƶ senior economics major Kaylyn Swankoski was awarded the 2011 Allen Starling Johnson Jr. Outstanding Symposium Presentation Prize for the April 29 presentation of her senior thesis at the Duke Economics Department 9th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium.
