ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ trustees have named campus facilities in honor of five emeriti faculty and staff members who provided distinguished service to the university.

Eric Zelenkofske '12 started working with the Burlington, N.C., homeless shelter after a philosophy course on ethics and decision-making.

Art Cassill, the Wesley R. Elingburg Professor of Accounting, has been named the 2012 Outstanding Educator of the Year by the NCACPA.

Paula Weller, lecturer, and Linda Poulson, associate professor, both in the Department of Accounting in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, recently published a paper titled, “Sarbanes-Oxley and the Need for Audit Committee Independence: Contrary Evidence in the Textile Industry.”

Associate Professor Alex Yap looks at the way today’s markets use computer programs to buy and sell stocks, bonds and commodities.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the honorary organization for financial information students and professionals, was awarded “Gold chapter” status during the national organization’s annual conference this month in Denver. ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ was one of seven chapters to achieve the honor, which is the highest award level a chapter can receive.

A team of four ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ business school students won first place this month in a national case competition that measured the ability to interpret, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and communicate a solution to a management accounting problem.

The announcement of two major gifts highlighted a 25th anniversary gala event for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. Students, faculty, staff and friends of the school gathered Feb. 5 to kick off a yearlong celebration of the school's founding in 1985. The gala featured the announcements of major gifts by ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ parent and trustee David Porter and the Martha and Spencer Love Foundation.

Art Cassill, a professor of accounting, has been named ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's first Wesley R. Elingburg Professor. Cassill was recognized during Fall Convocation on Oct. 23, where ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ trustee Wes Elingburg and his wife, Cathy, were in attendance for the presentation. It was their generous gift to the university that made possible the endowed professorship.
