The Sport and Event Management Department hosted its fall 2015 Project Palooza, showcasing student work conducted during the semester.

Five students and one staff member from the School of Communications provided video and social media coverage for the annual forum that brings together world leaders to discuss topics relating to food, health and prosperity. Two other ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ students attended the conference as fellows.

Chris Ekstrand, a consultant for the National Basketball Association, shared his journey from middling high school athlete and fledgling sports writer to a one-of-a-kind position with the world’s most prominent basketball league.

Carol Pyszkowski’s capstone project, supported by the Premier Sport and Event Society, provided more than 40 ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ students an inside look into the professional sports and arena management industries.

A contingent of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ students, faculty and staff members traveled to Atlanta to attend the annual public relations-focused conventions, where alumna Heather Harder ’14 was presented with a prestigious PRSSA award.

Tarah Holland and Erin Turner ’15 joined three fellow hackers to develop a community-centered web app that makes it easier to locate food donation sites and encourages contributions.

This semester's edition marks the 12th in the history of the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Journal, the nation’s first and only undergraduate research journal in communications.

The student-produced newscast was honored with eight awards, including four first-place finishes, and two School of Communications graduates were recognized for their professional journalism efforts.

Associate Professor Hal Walker, chair of the university's Department of Sport and Event Management, called Weaver "highly deserving" of recognition from the North Carolina Sport Management Coalition.
