The series will consist of two screenings of feature-length documentaries as well as a closing event featuring José Balado-Díaz, founder and director of the Peruvian Artistic Organization DocuPerú.

The schedule of the series is as follows:

1. Screening of “When Two Worlds Collide” (Peru, US, UK, 2016) – Wednesday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m. in Carlton Commons

2. Screening of “500 Years” (Guatemala, US, 2017) – Wednesday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m. in Carlton Commons

3. Event: “Building a National Photo Album: Democracy and Media Access – The DocuPerú Experience” (screening of selected shorts films by DocuPerú and a conversation with José Balado-Díaz, its director) – Thursday, April 12 at 7 p.m. in Turner Theatre

The selected films discuss some of the most poignant social conflicts affecting the region and their screenings will be followed by a brief discussion.

All the events are free and open to the public.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s First Latin American Documentary Series is possible thanks to the support of Belk Library, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµDocs, the Department of World Languages and Cultures, the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, the Office of the Associate Provost for Inclusive Communities, and ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ College, the College of Arts and Sciences.
