Several thousand ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni and friends descended on University of Richmond Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 28, to witness ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s first football playoff game in nearly three decades. The Phoenix squared off against the 2008 Football Championship Subdivision Richmond Spiders in the opening round of the FCS postseason.

Listening to ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ head football coach Pete Lembo speak at the weekly "Inside the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Huddle" luncheon on Monday, you'd think that Saturday's matchup against the Richmond Spiders is just another game.

Dennis W. Quaintance, CEO and chief design officer of Quaintance-Weaver Restaurants and Hotels, offered a paradoxical observation in his address to open ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s eighth-annual Fall Environmental Forum. “There’s a line out there that all of us say, that green building costs more,” he said. “I can’t deny that it costs more. But no one ever says this: It also costs less.”

Students without cars on campus will find it much easier to volunteer this fall. The Kernodle Center for Service Learning is sponsoring Get on the Bus!, a weekly Friday afternoon service trip featuring transportation by ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ BioBus.

In August 2007, Taylor Trensch '11 began his freshman year in ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s music theatre program. One of the first people he met was then-senior Matt Shingledecker '08, who became his mentor in the program. Little did either know that two years down the road, they’d meet each other again – this time as castmates in the first national tour of the Tony Award-winning musical “Spring Awakening.”

The Kernodle Center for Service-Learning has launched its redesigned Web site to benefit students, faculty, staff and community partners participating in ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's award-winning civic engagement programs.

Faculty and staff may access the schedule for Planning Week 2009 via the Web. This year's Planning Week begins on Monday, August 24.
