School of Communications students Payton Byrnes ’21 and Julianne Quinn ’22 reflect on their experiences reporting virtually this summer for the Burlington Times-News.

The ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ alumna served as the guest speaker at a recent meeting of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, discussing her time at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ, her first job and how she is maintaining her mental health while reporting.

The School of Communications hosted a panel discussion for students seeking employment in a turbulent economy.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ News Network debuted its first remote show on April 2, with students collaborating across multiple states to serve the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ community.

Renna, the first national news director of GLAAD, visited with students virtually on March 31, discussing diversity in the media industry and having a voice in the workplace. 

During a March 4 on-campus discussion, panelists with expertise in media law, media ethics and psychology addressed cancel culture, a need for empathy, and the psychological impact of limitless access to information.

Twenty-one students attended the 2020 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, interacting with ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ alumni working – and gaining recognition – in the film and entertainment industries.

Thirty-two Communications Fellows toured 11 companies on a two-week trip to the Sunshine state, speaking with industry professionals, enjoying hands-on experiences, and exploring future job possibilities.

The School of Communications internship director is set to retire on Dec. 13 concluding an 11-year tenure spent preparing ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ students for professional work experiences.
