“Diversity” has become a buzzword on college campuses that misses a larger point, said activist and BET personality Jeff Johnson, who visited campus Saturday for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s inaugural Diversity Leadership Conference. Preparations are underway for Convocation for Honors, scheduled for April 13. Students taking part in the ceremony are asked to pick up their academic regalia at the Campus Shop inside the Moseley Center before Tuesday afternoon.

The air was filled with beeping, digging, scraping and laughter Saturday when the Old North State Detectorists, a group of metal detector enthusiasts, searched for artifacts buried on the grounds of an historic schoolhouse ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ plans to restore after a local family gifted it to the university last year.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ President Leo M. Lambert dedicated Phi Beta Kappa Commons in the Academic Village on Tuesday during a special College Coffee. Lambert called the morning ceremony on the brick plaza “a tribute to the university’s dedication to the arts and sciences.” The university will install a chapter of the nation’s oldest academic society today at Convocation for Honors.
