Teach for America hires ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ alumni for fall 2010

Fourteen ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ alumni in the Class of 2010 will re-enter the classroom this fall as educators with Teach for America, a national nonprofit that recruits recent college graduates to help erase what it describes as educational inequity found in many urban and rural low-income communities.

Students, faculty & staff attend Senior Class Picnic

Hundreds of students, and nearly as many professors and administrators, mingled Wednesday afternoon on the green outside Moseley Center in the annual Senior Class Picnic for Graduates, Faculty and Staff. The informal event gives seniors a moment to relax over pork barbecue and grilled chicken with the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ educators who guided them through four years of study.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ MBA students receive degrees

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ leaders conferred degrees on May 21, 2010, to the largest class in MBA program history during a Commencement ceremony in Whitley Auditorium attended by faculty, staff, family and friends of the graduate students.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ conferred degrees on Saturday to 1,118 seniors in a ceremony that included remarks from acclaimed filmmaker and alumnus Laith al-Majali ’05, who told graduates they have “all the tools and skill sets you need to stand out as global leaders.”

Student leaders collected more than $16,000 this year from seniors, their parents, grandparents and friends in support of the Senior Class Gift campaign, which will fund the Class of 2010 Sustainability Research Grants for students who desire to complete research on sustainability practices.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ professor publishes book on India and the World Bank

India is the largest borrower from the World Bank, which has often helped the nation’s economy in recent years. Its assistance, however, may be about to change dramatically. India and the World Bank: The Politics of Aid and Influence, a new Anthem Press book by Jason Kirk, explores that partnership and suggests ways for the bank to adapt to new economic realities in the 21st century.

Information on Commencement Rain Plan

With the most recent forecast calling for a 50 percent chance of rain Saturday morning and scattered thunderstorms throughout the day, seniors taking part in Commencement are reminded to visit Alamance 109 before this afternoon to receive two tickets for guests who will watch the ceremony inside Alumni Gym should weather force the program indoors.

Events leading up to Commencement 2010 take place this week as ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ prepares to graduate its 120th undergraduate class, its MBA and ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ Law class, and its inaugural class in the iMedia graduate program. Activities for seniors start May 18, with a class picnic, an evening gala, receptions and dinners on the agenda.
