ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ sophomore Chris Thomas was named the 2010 Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Year and six Phoenix players earned all-conference honors.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ senior Tyler Anderson wrote major portions of the code for a new iPhone/iPod Touch application released by the Iconfactory, a graphic design and software firm based in Greensboro, N.C. The application was approved by Apple for distribution on its iTunes App Store on Oct. 13, following a rigorous quality review for compliance on Apple's mobile devices.

A special Residential Campus Committee has spent the past year drafting a plan that will transform ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ's living-learning environment. Through a new website, the committee is inviting a campus conversation about the details of this initiative, a major goal of the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Commitment strategic plan.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ sociology and global studies students used Skype technology on Oct. 20 to hold a 90-minute conversation with students at Dijlah University College in Baghdad, Iraq. The session was the brainchild of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ sociology professor Tom Arcaro and Ahmed Fadaam, a sculptor/journalist from Baghdad who has visited ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ in the past.

Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine has ranked ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ among the nation’s top 50 best values in private higher education and the #9 university in lowest total costs, a distinction published in the magazine’s December edition. The 2010-11 ranking is the fifth consecutive top-50 placement of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ by Kiplinger’s.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ has launched the public phase of the largest fundraising campaign in the school’s history. The Board of Trustees voted Oct. 10 to set a goal of raising $100 million by 2011 through Ever ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ: The Campaign for the Future of Our University.

David Gergen, prominent political commentator, former presidential adviser and chair of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law's advisory board, features a posting on his "David Gergen's Voice" blog about the revitalization of downtown Greensboro, N.C. The piece, by Gergen's son Christopher, describes the role that ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Law and other foundation-supported initiatives have played in the city's economic transformation.

Discovery.com, the online publication of the Discovery Channel, featured the work of Janna Anderson, associate professor of communications and director of the School of Communication's Imagining the Internet Center, in an Oct. 18 article.

Former ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Phoenix football standout receiver Terrell Hudgins was honored with the retirement of his jersey prior to ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s October 2 game. Standing at mid-field, Hudgins received a framed jersey from Dave Blank, director of athletics. The crowd responded with a standing ovation in recognition of Hudgins' football achievements.
