The award supports the "MOve Virtually with ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ (MO.V.E.) Program for Individuals with Parkinson's Disease" project.
Srikant Vallabhajosula, associate professor of physical therapy education, and Jen Guy Metcalf, associate professor of dance, have been awarded a $7,260 Parkinson’s Foundation Community Grants Award for their project, “MOve Virtually with ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ (MO.V.E.) Program for Individuals with Parkinson’s Disease.”

Based on earlier Parkinson’s Foundation funding of in-person individualized physical therapy intervention and a pilot virtual dance program, the team will offer virtual dance and strength training classes to individuals with Parkinson’s disease. The classes will include 30 minutes of dance-based routines followed by aerobic and strength training for 30 minutes. Classes will also include education on reducing fall-risk and meditation. Evaluations will be conducted to assess changes in physical and mental health of individuals with Parkinson’s disease.
ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ DPT students and Dance Science students will work with the instructors to help deliver the classes.
