Hwayeon Ryu receives Mathematics Association of America grant

The grant supports modern pedagogy with a direct emphasis on real data wrangling and visualization techniques using modern computational tools in introductory statistics courses.

Hwayeon Ryu, assistant professor of mathematics, was awarded $17,405 from the Mathematics Association of America with pass-through funds from the National Science Foundation for her project, “Professional Development Emphasizing Data-Centered Resources and Pedagogies for Instructors of Undergraduate Introductory Statistics (StatPREP).

StatPREP strives to provide professional development for faculty teaching introductory statistics, particularly two-year college instructors, through a series of two-year regional workshops and follow-up activities. The sites are called hubs and each hub has a hub leader.

Ryu already hosted the StatPREP workshops at the University of Hartford during the summers of 2018 and 2019. Now at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ, she will continue to work with StatPREP, disseminating information and results.
