Assistant professor of mathematics Chad Awtrey presented a research talk at Davidson College on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013.  Awtrey’s talk was part of the Palmetto Number Theory Series, a program of mathematical research talks that began in South Carolina in 2006 and is now funded by grants from the National Science Foundation (DMS-1303254) and the National Security Agency.

Awtrey’s talk, “Degree 14 2-adic fields,” focused on recent research results he obtained in collaboration with ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ mathematics majors Nicole Miles ’15, Christopher Shill ’14, Erin Strosnider ’14 and UNC-Greensboro mathematics doctoral student Jonathan Milstead. A corresponding paper has been accepted for publication in the journal Involve, which is a top-ranked professional mathematics research journal dedicated to publishing high-quality research resulting from student-faculty collaborations.

This research was supported in part by a grant from the Center for Undergraduate Research in Mathematics, an NSF-funded program administered by Michael Dorff of Brigham Young University.
