In the process of doing research for her ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ College Fellows final project, Lauren Clapp ’13, a human service studies and public health double major, learned that much of the eastern side of Burlington, N.C., is considered a food desert by the USDA. Together with her mentor, Beth Warner, associate professor and chair of the Department of Human Service Studies, Clapp is working to build a community garden in the city’s North Park at Mayco Bigelow Community Center.
