Award-winning New Student Orientation Head Staff represents ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ at Regional Conference

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s New Student Orientation Head Staff team attended the Southern Regional Orientation Workshop (SROW) hosted by UNC-Charlotte March 9-11.

Held annually, SROW represents Region VI for the National Orientation Directors Association (NODA), a professional organization dedicated to providing education, leadership, and professional development in the fields of orientation, transition, and retention in higher education.

Head Staff, a group of 11 students who provide leadership for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s Orientation program, were selected to present 4 educational sessions during the conference. Using interactive role-playing and discussion of student development theory, these presentations highlighted the philosophy and values that provide foundation for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s award-winning orientation program, as well as the importance of quality peer mentorship during student transition.

In addition to educational programs, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ stood out among nearly 2,000 conference participants during the awards ceremony. Head Staff received the award for Best School Spirit for the small school delegation at the regional conference, as well as Best Communication in the Undergraduate Case Study Competition.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ students who attended the conference and received these awards included sophomores Dana Hedman, Kim Lilienthal and Maggie Achey, and juniors Kathryn Knaus, Jill Padfield, Bobby Rawlings, Michael Soucy, Pat Lynn, Genevieve D’Cruz, Jessica Simermeyer and Janice Spearbeck.
