Teaching Fellows taking part in canned food collection contest

Teaching Fellows at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ have teamed with their counterparts at UNC Greensboro and N.C. A&T to collect canned goods as part of a contest against other North Carolina Teaching Fellows programs.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ freshman Alyssa Brown is one of 89 Teaching Fellows at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ taking part in a contest with counterparts across the state to collect canned goods for local food banks.

Students, faculty and staff can drop off items at a table near the west entrance to the Moseley Center any day during the lunch hour through Nov. 23. Donated items benefit Loaves & Fishes Christian Food Ministry in Burlington.

Loaves & Fishes will weigh the donations and, combined with donations made from UNC Greensboro and N.C. A&T to local food banks, the results will be compared to seven other teams. Eighty-nine students in ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s Teaching Fellows program are taking part.

The winning team gets “bragging rights” until next year’s event.

The friendly competition between North Carolina schools that host Teaching Fellows programs is a way to give back to the community, organizers say.

Teams are as follows:

ECU / Campbell
Meredith / N.C. State University
UNC / N.C. Central University
Greensboro / ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ / A & T
Wilmington / Pembroke
Charlotte / Queens
WCU / Asheville
Appalachian / Lenoir Rhyne
