Results for Week #6 of the RecycleMania national recycling contest are in. The ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ community continues to show awareness and effort in the spring campaign. Current results reflect one of the strongest collection weeks to date.
ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ had 12,140 pounds of materials collected during the week, bringing its total to 62,000 pounds for the campaign. That total places ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ at No. 83 out 166 entries for total pounds collected.
On the Per Capita level, ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ sits at No. 74 out of 147 per capita entries with 9.26 lb per capita volume.
The targeted materials collection of aluminum/plastic/glass, cardboard and paper is going strong. ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ is poised at No. 27 out of 131 entries for the collection of aluminum, plastic and glass; 32 out of 130 entries for the collection of cardboard and, well, we’re still collecting paper. ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ sits at 108 out of 134 entries.
Spring Break
Spring Break will mark the ninth week of the ten week contest. Last year through the week of Spring Break, collection remained strong due to the excess left for pick-up. The week after, which will be the last week of the contest this year, is when the numbers dropped a bit. Officials ask that students keep this in their thoughts as they return back and make that extra effort to finish strong.
For those of us “hanging” around campus during Spring Break, it may be an opportune time to “spring clean” and get rid of old files or books, pamphlets, brochures, phone books and directories that could be recycled. If you need assistance with having any items removed, please call the Physical Plant at x5500 and workers will make a pick-up.
Again, our goal this year is to exceed 94,318 pounds. ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ is 32,319 pounds away!
