Peter Felten, director of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, led the panel discussion, which was based on a column written by President Leo M. Lambert for the latest issue of the Magazine of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ. Lambert explained the advice he had been given by a group of CEOs he met with last fall. They suggested ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ develop programs that put students in challenging situations so they can develop resiliency and the ability to recover from setbacks.
Panel members included Tim Peeples, associate dean of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ College, the College of Arts and Sciences; Deborah Long, faculty administrative fellow and assistant to the president; Rex Waters, associate dean of students; Wes Pope, an ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ senior; and Christian Wiggins, an ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ alumnus.
Parents encouraged the university to develop curriculum and formal programs that test students and help them gain skills that will serve them well in meeting life’s challenges.
