A plaque at the front entrance of the new Town of Ƶ fire substation honors the university for its role in making the new facility a reality.
Ƶ Fire Chief Eddie King joined university president Leo M. Lambert, Jo Williams, special assistant to the president, and Bill Loy, a board member of Ƶ Fire and Rescue, Inc., and longtime friend of the university, for a recent plaque unveiling. The university donated the land for the substation, located on Powerline Road about 1/2-mile from campus. The substation will offer more efficient fire protection to the university and areas north of the railroad tracks that divide the town of Ƶ. The town’s other fire station is south of the tracks.
“I thought it was in the best interest of the university and town to have a station on this side of town,” Lambert said in a recent interview with the Rock Creek Record newspaper.
