Library archives on the move

Workers have started the process of moving a portion of Belk Library's archives to a new storage facility at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ West. Details...

Katie Nash, special collections librarian and archivist, is supervising the relocation of materials to a renovated space previously occupied by the university’s auto maintenance department. More than 100 years of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ history is included in the items being moved from a different area of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ West to the new storage room.

The collection includes extra copies of Phi Psi Cli, the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ yearbook, artifacts such as banners, flags, uniforms and programs, old academic catalogs, journals and books that get little circulation. The new storage space has compact shelving which accommodates odd-sized books and journals.

Items stored in the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ West archives will be available for checkout on a 24-hour turnaround basis, Nash said.

The move will continue through Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning. The vacated storage space will be converted into studio space as part of the art department’s move to ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ West from the Center for the Arts.
