The meeting included Matjiua Kauapira, a third-year student at the University of Namibia and ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s Periclean-in-Residence. Kauapira, along with ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ students in the Periclean Scholars Class of 2006, told Coble about the Future Leaders Summit on HIV/AIDS, held in Windhoek, Namibia in January. ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ students and students from the University of Namibia and Polytechnic of Namibia organized the conference, which brought together leaders in the fight against HIV/AIDS to share ideas and explore ways to combat the disease in Africa.
Coble has represented North Carolina’s 6th District in Congress since 1984. He was instrumental in legislation which provided a $1 million federal grant to ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ for the conversion of shuttle buses from gasoline power to biodiesel fuel technology. He also helped secure federal funding for a physical therapy lab at Alamance Regional Medical Center, a joint effort between ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ and ARMC.
