Walkers receive SoCon Service Award

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ trustee Zachary T. Walker III ’60 and his wife, Dot, have been selected recipients of the Southern Conference Distinguished Service Award for 2006. The award recognizes individuals from each member institution who have provided exemplary leadership and support for their intercollegiate athletics program.

Zac Walker is former chair of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s board of trustees. He and Dot are long-time supporters of the university and the Phoenix athletics program, regularly attending events and supporting the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ Athletics Foundation. The Walkers named the lounge on the first floor of Woods Center at Rhodes Stadium as well as the athletics director’s office in Koury Center. They also endowed the Zac Walker Scholarship for Academic Achievement and the Zac Walker Jr. football scholarship in honor of his father, who was also an ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ alumnus. Walker’s uncle was legendary ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ football coach D.C. “Peahead” Walker.

The Walkers live in Summerfield, N.C. He is CEO of Oakhurst Textiles.
