Northwestern State (Natchitoches, La.) will now occupy ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s Oct. 13 “open date” for a 2 p.m. contest at Rhodes Stadium, giving the Phoenix six home games this fall. The Demons finished 4-7 last season after forfeiting a pair of victories due to the inadvertent use of an ineligible player. NSU advanced to the semifinal round of the 1998 NCAA-IAA playoffs.
ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s schedule now consists of 11 NCAA-IAA opponents, including six that finished ranked among the nation’s top 30 teams in the 2000 Sports Network poll. Last season, the Phoenix finished 7-4 and ranked 22nd in the Football Gazette’s national poll. All four of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ’s setbacks came to squads rated among the top 10 in the country.
