The building is named in honor of Violet Hoffman Daniel, a 1940 ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ alumnus who later became an ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ faculty member, teaching secretarial science from 1942 to 1946.
She was joined at the dedication by her two sons, David and Samuel Daniel. A portrait of Mrs. Daniel by Greensboro artist Tom Edgerton was unveiled at the ceremony.
The commons building features a fireplace lounge, computer lab, classroom/conference room, a residence life office, the Cranberry Farms dining facility and an outdoor patio. The commons building serves as a hub for students living in Danieley Center flats and apartments as well as nearby ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Place and Haggard Square.
