ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ endows Jack McKeon baseball scholarship

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ and the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Athletics Foundation (EAF) will announce the establishment of the Jack McKeon Baseball Scholarship on Sunday, April 3 during pregame festivities at the exhibition game between the Greensboro Grasshoppers and the Florida Marlins at First Horizon Park in Greensboro.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ President Leo M. Lambert will make the announcement of the scholarship and will present McKeon, a 1963 ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ graduate, with an ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ baseball jersey.

McKeon, a long-time ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ resident, is manager of the Florida Marlins and led the team to the 2003 World Series title. The scholarship has been established to honor McKeon and his accomplishments and generosity to the Phoenix program. While pursuing his ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ degree, McKeon assisted Coach “Doc” Mathis with the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ baseball program.

The scholarship will support ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ baseball in perpetuity as the Phoenix continues to compete at the NCAA Division I level as a member of the Southern Conference. A core group of donors has established this scholarship and additional scholarship funds will be raised during the Friends of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Athletics golf tournament on April 25 at the Alamance Country Club. For more information on the golf tournament, contact EAF director Trey Stewart at 336-278-6709.
