The U.S. State Department has provided funding for ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ to host a Russian undergraduate student during the 2003-2004 academic year as part of the Freedom Support Act Undergraduate Program (FSAU).
Veronica Kovalyova, a criminal justice major from Vladivostok, Russia, will study at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ as an undergraduate fellow in the program, which supports second- and third-year undergraduate students from Russia and many of its former republics for a year of study at qualified U.S. universities. Betty Morgan, associate professor of political science and director of the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Center for Public Affairs, will serve as Kovalyova’s host advisor during the year.
Fellows study in a variety of fields, including business, criminal justice, economics, education, international relations and political science. Community service is an important part of the FSAU program, and fellows perform a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer service to local organizations in their first semester. Students also complete a part-time professional internship in their field of study during their second semester.
