Benjamin Crisp, an eighth-grade student at Turrentine Middle School in Burlington, N.C., has been selected as the winner of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Humanitarian Essay Contest, sponsored by the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ Multicultural Affairs Council. Crisp was recognized during ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ’s Martin Luther King, Jr., Commemorative Address program Wednesday, Jan. 15.
The contest, open to middle school students in Alamance County, asks students to write a 250-500 word essay describing their personal efforts to keep King’s dream of equality alive. Crisp is active in school activities, serving as a Star Representative at Turrnetine to promote non-violent conflict resolution. He is the son of Roslyn Moore Crisp of Burlington.
Crisp received a $100 cash prize, a certificate of recognition and tickets to an ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ basketball game. Turrentine principal Stephen Gainey received a plaque to commemorate Crisp’s selection.
