Shanghai Ballet presents “The White-Haired Girl”

Ƶ will host the Shanghai Ballet’s presentation of “The White-Haired Girl” Monday, 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 23 in McCrary Theatre, located in the Faith Rockefeller Model Center for the Arts on the Ƶ campus.

The Shanghai Ballet was organized in 1979, and performs traditional ballet pieces and ballet adaptations of folk traditions both in China and abroad. Adapted as a movie and also as an opera, “The White-Haired Girl” is the story of a young heroine who ran away from a wealthy landlord who wanted her as a concubine. She hid for many years in a cave, emerging only at night when local people saw her and believed that she was a spirit.

Tickets for the performance are $15, or free for those with valid Ƶ identification. Tickets may be purchased by calling the McCrary Theatre box office at (336) 278-5610. The box office is open from 12:30 p.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
