Brief Biography

Rosa Newman joined the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ Law faculty in Spring of 2022. She currently teaches Property, Wills and Trusts, and Real Estate Transactions. Prior to her work at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ, Professor Newman was a Louis Westerfield Fellow at Loyola New Orleans College of Law. 

Professor Newman's scholarly interests include issues relating to housing and economic development.

Before entering academia, Professor Newman worked extensively in mixed-income housing development, facilitating transactions that combined multiple layers of financing including Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), HUD/FHA funding, social equity, and opportunity zone financing. She oversaw the development of hundreds of units of high-rise, transit-oriented housing across Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Texas. She then served as the Dean Louis Westerfield Fellow at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law before joining the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ faculty in 2022.

Professor Newman is Chair of the Legal Education and Uniform Laws Group of the ABA Section of Real Property, Trust & Estate Law, a contributing editor to Jotwell: The Journal of Things We Like (Lots) (Property Section), and a member of the Trusts Drafting Committee of the North Carolina General Statutes Commission. She earned her B.A. from the University of Chicago where she was a Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholar and a dual J.D./M.S. in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Iowa.
